Here is Purpose-Driven Goat Herder, Cole Phillips pimping his latest self-help serminar which will answer relationship questions like "how do you know you've found the right one" and "how do you strengthen rocky relationships"?
Since Cole doesn't understand that his job as a pastor is to PREACH THE WORD (2 Timothy 4:1-4), we think he should step down from from the pulpit and open a marriage family therapy practice.

Anyone who has been watching and warning against Post-Modern Liberalism (The Emergent Church) will be not be surprised by Tony Jones' denial of the Biblical Doctrine of Original Sin. But, for those of you who may be shocked by what is 'emerging' from the Emergent Church we have this bit of Bible denying apostasy to share with you.
---
For Record Here is what the Bible has to say about Original Sin.
Eph. 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
Rom. 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned...
Rom. 5:18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
Psa. 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Rom 3:10 as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
13 “Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 in their paths are ruin and misery,
17 and the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Tadd Granstaff, winner of the Museum of Idolatry's award for the Worst Christmas Sermon of 2008 is submitting his entry for the Worst Sermon Series of 2009 Award.
Apparently Pine Ridge Church is on a mission to bring sexy back. We think it is time for these pastors to find different jobs and for the parishioners to demand that they bring Jesus back.
Keep in mind that Pastor Goat Herder Tadd Granstaff is NOT licensed nor trained as a sex-therapist and is not qualified to lead a group therapy session on this topic. Even if he were, Church is not supposed to be a group therapy session AND Jesus Christ has NOT commissioned HIS church to 'bring sexy back'.

Obama worship gets creepier by the day. Here is an artist's simulation of Obama's triumphal entry. According to the official website for this event:
The simulation took place on January 19, 2009, one day before the inauguration of President Obama, in Des Moines, Iowa, where His meteoric rise began. While onlookers waived palm branches, a motorcade consisiting of 4 black SUVs, the sculpture affixed to a donkey, and secret service agents made the the mile long triumphal entry which ended at the steps of the State of Iowa Capitol building.

In a new YouTube video produced by Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions, dozens of celebrities – television and movie actors, sports heroes, musicians and more – describe how they will pledge to "be the change" and "be a servant to our president."
Throughout the video, the celebrities pledge to support local food banks, to smile more, to be better parents, to work with the charity UNICEF, to "never give anyone the finger when I'm driving again," to help find a cure for Alzheimer's, to meet neighbors, to use less plastic, to plant 500 trees, to "be more green," to turn the lights off and to "free 1 million people from slavery in the next five years," among dozens of other pledges.
The purpose of all this pledging is summed up in the video's grand finale.
Actors Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher begin the closing scene by saying, "I pledge to be a servant to our president and all mankind."

Purpose-Driven / Seeker-Sensitive Churches apparently have much more important things to do on Superbowl Sunday than hold evening church services. (Their church services aren't really church services anyway. They are really self-help group therapy sessions with a few Bible verses thrown in to make them sound Christianish.)
Here are two examples.
The first if from Perry Noble's New Spring Church Self-Help Center

Finally there is a Bible designed specifically to reach football fans. We were worried that the millions of NFL fanatics out there were going to hell because no one had taken the time to give them a Bible that they could relate with. Everyone knows that football fans only have a one track mind and cannot be reached or communicated with unless someone translates the message into 'Pigskin' (that is the native tongue of football fans)

Purpose-Driven Rock Star Steven Furtick is beginning a new sermon series that will focus on helping you "activate the leadership potential in you".
Apparently, doing a sermon series on an actual book of the Bible or something that is actually taught in God's Word is no longer something that this new breed of ear scratching pastors life-coaches feel is relevant or necessary. What could be more ego gratifying and self-centered than a sermon group therapy session that will help you focus on yourself and awaken the leadership potential that is apparently lying dormant within you?
2Tim. 4:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 John 8 Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. 9 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, 11 for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

Prominent Emergent leader, Tony Jones has already come out of the closet and publically denied God's Word regarding the sin of homosexuality and now he's promoting the Queermergent website.
Even though Emergents try to navigate a middle road between liberalism and conservatism, then end up supporting the same agenda as their Modern Liberal cousins.

In this video you are going to hear Rick Warren asking Christians to be as dedicated to his Global P.E.A.C.E. Plan as the Nazis were to Hitler. Warren wants Christians to commit themselves to do 'whatever it takes' to slay the global giants.
The problems with this are almost too many to list. But here are a couple.
1. Jesus has NOT commissioned the Church to go and slay global giants (spiritual lostness, egocentric leadership, poverty, disease, and ignorance). Jesus has commissioned the church to proclaim "repentance and the forgiveness of sins in Jesus' name to all nations" (Luke 24:46-48) and to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:18-20)
2. Lifting up Nazi passion and commitment and asking Christians to have that same passion and commitment is not just tacky, it is out right creepy. Is Warren building an army?

Thank you to everyone who participated in our interactive exhibit.
The answer to who said that was John Shelby Spong.
The reason we did this is because John Shelby Spong is a crack pot liberal who denies fundamental Christian doctrines such as the substitionary atonement and attacks and denies that he Bible is the inerrant word of God. Yet, this quote sounds exactly like something that any of these Emergents could or has said (especially McLaren).
The Emergents claim that they are a 'third way' or a synthesis and middle ground between liberalism and conservatism. Yet, they are coming to the same conclusions as "modern" liberals. The Emergent movement is nothing more than a Post-Modern form of Liberalism.

This is an interactive Exhibit.
Last week, while we were researching we came across a very obscure and hard to find quote. Rather than tell you who said this and where we found it. We thought that it would be more educational if we reproduced the quote and then asked you to identify the source. We'll reveal the author in a future post. But, for right now we'd like you to read the quote. Think about what it says and then see if you (without using google) can guess who said this. Please submit your guesses along with your reasoning in the comments section of this exhibit.
Here is the quote:
The simplistic claim that Jesus is God is not affirmed in scripture. By that I mean when Jesus was the incarnate one he prayed to God. He was not talking to himself. He had this sense of God beyond himself. He died. God did not die when Jesus died. God was still there with the power of resurrection. So that to make the simplistic identification between Jesus in his incarnation and God is not part of the Christian narrative.
What the Christian narrative seems to me says is that God was in Christ. That when we meet Christ we meet God. I cannot think of God apart from Jesus Christ. I cannot think of Jesus Christ apart from God. But I think that the whole doctrine of the Trinity in the Christian tradition was an attempt to keep separate while affirming the unity. I do not think there is a separation between God and Jesus that would cause me to say that Jesus is not God’s saving revelation in human history.
Who Said This?
A. Brian McLaren
B. Tony Jones
C. Doug Pagitt
D. Rob Bell
E. Someone else - You name the person

The video below features "Pastor" Ed Bacon on one of Oprah's spirituality shows claiming that being Gay is a Gift from God. There are plenty of problems with this statement coming from a supposed 'Christian' pastor. Let's list a few.
1. There is NOT ONE ONE verse in the Bible that says that being gay is a gift from God.
2. There are plenty of passages that say that homosexuality is an abomination that merits God's present and eternal punishment.
Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
Romans 1:26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Timothy 1:8 Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
The bottom line is that in order to believe that homosexuality is a gift from God you have to rationalize and explain away every passage of scripture that clearly says it is a sin and an abomination and instead believe something that the Bible NEVER says.
People who say and believe things like this "are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity." (Eph 4:18-19)
The tragedy is that Christ died for homosexual sins as well as heterosexual sins. Christ is offering homosexuals a full and complete pardon and forgiveness for their sins. As the Lord said, "Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?" (Ezek. 18:23) But, when satanic lies like this do their work the homosexual doesn't see himself as a wicked sinner in need of Christ's forgiveness for his homosexual sins but instead is given a false sense of hope and pride believing that homosexuality is a gift from God. When a person believes this lie, Satan has done his work by making his victim comfortable while they snub and pay no attention to God's coming judgement. Unfortunately, when Christ returns the homosexual who fell for this lie will not hear "well done thou good and faithful servant." Instead, they will hear the most terrifying words any human could ever hear from Jesus Christ, "Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

The Christian Post has yet another ooooh soooo relevant article that explains how to share your faith using Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love. This is another shallow and vain attempt for Christians to try to marry themselves to the current spirit of the age in order to avoid the scandal of the cross and the offense of the gospel message that Christ died for our sins (Ironically, this song is NOT new. It was released in late 2007). Furthermore the article is written from a victim mentality rather than Biblical position that we are all wretched sinners who stand guilty before God and are in need of a savior and need to repent and believe the good news that Christ died for our sins.
Christians Need to Get Back to Sharing the Biblical Gospel by Using the Bible Instead of Trying to Hitch a Ride on the Latest Popular Thing in the Culture!

Apparently the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Ashland, Oregon has forgotten that Jesus Christ has commissioned the Church to go and make disciples by teaching people to observe all that He has commanded (Matt 28:18-20). Making disciples includes teaching people about the sin of homosexuality and God's coming wrath and judgement of people who practice homosexuality (1 Cor. 6:9-11).
It has been reported in the Ashland Daily Tidings:
that the First Congregational United Church of Christ’s Rev. Pam Shepherd, seeing the act of signing marriage licenses for heterosexual couples as a form of discrimination against gays and lesbians, decided that in the name of fairness no licenses should be dignified with the signature of the church’s clergy until all families receive equal treatment under the law.
The article quoted Rev. Shepherd as saying, "I’ve been for civil rights for gay and lesbian people for a long, long time, but I never thought, ’I’m helping the discrimination every time I sign a license.’" (Online Source)

Next Level Church in Charlotte, North Carolina has sunk to a low level. Rather than faithfully preaching God's Word (which is what God's Word commands pastors to do) they've bought into the lies of the seeker-sensitive / purpose-driven movement. Aside from preaching on such relevant topics as the movies The Love Guru and The Dark Night they are now launching into a self-help sermon series on the 'Gospel According to the Beatles'. The web graphic from their site is reproduced below. Notice that the Fab 4 have been promoted to 'sainthood' despite the fact that they all openly and bluntly rejected Jesus Christ (especially John Lennon).
Next Level Church is well on their way to producing the same miserable results that both Willow Creek and Grainger Community Church have produced (a 'church' full of people who aren't Christians, who don't believe in Salvation by Grace Alone through Faith Alone, who don't believe in the authority and sufficiency of scripture, and aren't being given the Biblical gospel). Afterall, preaching God's word won't draw a crowd as easily as preaching about the gospel according to the Beatles.
Bonus Material: Next Level Church's 2008 Christmas promo video features Will Ferrel taking God's Name In Vain. Apparently that is no longer a sin among these relevant seeker-sensitive types.

The award for the absolute worst Christmas sermon of 2008 goes to Tadd Grandstaff of Pine Ridge Church in Graham, North Carolina. Here are the reasons we are "honoring" this sermon as the worst.
1. This "Christmas" sermon was completely Christ-less even though it was preached just days before Christmas.
2. The "text" that was at the center of Tadd Grandstaff's "sermon" was not a Biblical text. Instead, he preached on what God was supposedly directly speaking to his heart.
3. The "sermon" preaches about your greatness rather than the Greatness of God and Jesus Christ. It scratched itching ears and literally taught man-centered heresy.
Tadd Grandstaff is one of the new breed of relevant rebellious purpose-driven church planters and this sermon is a typical example of the false gospel and man-centered deception at the heart of this movement. If you know anyone who attends this church or is thinking of attending please warn them that this church does not preach true Christianity.
