They won't be pulling this stunt when judgment day comes. They'll be singing, "Have Mercy On Me LORD Jesus." And so will the country that invests its money in this garbage.

why are you posting this?
Posted by: kyle | August 23, 2008 at 12:35 PM
How awful!! No wonder the kids today have no reverance or respect if this is what they are watching.
Posted by: Shma | August 23, 2008 at 02:16 PM
Wow. I was looking to take my kids to see a movie today, and I saw that one listed. I hadn't seen any trailers for it, so I was curious what it was about, but not enough to try and search it out. Imagine my surprise when I saw the trailer here. I was probably the least shocked person in the world to find that a South Park creator was involved with the making of this film.
Posted by: Christy | August 23, 2008 at 04:33 PM
I saw the trailer to this garbage movie and it made me sick, but we have to remeber what the Bible said, in the last days people will be mocking God.I would not be surprised to see the modern seeker-sensitive church show clips of this blasphemous movie and ask the people of how they saw God in all this.Lord have mercy on us all.
Posted by: Jimmy | August 23, 2008 at 04:41 PM
You people are too uptight. Jesus had a sense of humor and probably wouldn't get bent out shape over this movie. I bet he'd even go and see it. So chill out.
Posted by: Patrick | August 23, 2008 at 08:21 PM
uptight? because we care how our Lord is portrayed? no, i'm afraid if you want uptight you'll want to refer to Muslims who actually kill people when their "prophet" is maligned...and I think someone else made the same point on another post
Posted by: enoch_elijah | August 23, 2008 at 10:31 PM
I am not uptight. Someone who loved me so much that he was willing to die for me deserves much better than this. If they made a movie about your dead da you would scram and complain about it. Jesus deserves so much more than what we are giving him. This movie will tank. Hollywood has not yet learned that FAMILY films make the money, not the religious garbage they spew.

Patrick,
To answer your question, read Hebrews 8:28-31.
Also, check out this news article and imagine it as a sermon illustration. http://www.fmft.net/archives/BBC_NEWS.htm
Hint: The lion is Jesus. The opponents are the prideful mockers.

@Patrick
Would you care to back up your statement with scripture? We are all waiting for you to enlighten us.

Oh, I thought this was the new revival service at Lakeland.
Posted by: Lorikate | August 24, 2008 at 07:24 PM
I think everyone is overlooking one major point here.... how LAME the movie looks anyway.
Regardless of ones religious affiliation, the movie just looks plain stupid and really, really bad. The kind of bad where people leave the cinema 10 IQ points for the worse just because of viewing this banal garbage.
And call me crazy if you will, but I have serious doubts that our Lord Jesus Christ, the King and Ruler of this world, the Lion and the Lamb, the one who flung stars into space and then who surrendered to nails on the cross, the one who has power over death and the one who will return to judge the earth, would decide, on a whim, to go and see "Hamlet 2" just for a laugh...i dunno...

PJC Bravo! Excellent challenge to Patrick.
I echo PJC's challenge - Patrick, please provide the scripture that supports your position. I'll add one more challenge - please define the word HOLY.

I am not sure why this was posted. It was over the top and offensive because of the way they portrayed Jesus. I wish that you would be more sensitive to what you post on here. I know that this stuff is ludicrous but even the trailer was incredibly blasphemous...I'm sure the actual movie is far worse.
Posted by: Andrew | August 25, 2008 at 09:35 PM
"...Jesus had a sense of humor..." There is a passage that states God "laughs," but not in the way Patrick (and others) think: "but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming." (Ps 317:13)
Posted by: Keith | August 26, 2008 at 09:12 AM
This movie is total crap! Yet people will still watch it.
Just like Da Vinci Code. I am not surprised that Jesus will be mocked. Satan is at work after all.
I think that the way we Cristians react to all of this is important. The Bible says that we are to expect such blaspehmy.
We just have to stay in faith! They wicked will have their turn on the day of judgement.. I won't feel sorry for them...
God forgive me!

Irreverent and crude, unfortunatley this is not the worst out there, just the most mainstream. Ever seen that bumper sticker that says "if your not outraged, your not paying attention"?

I don't see what the problem is with calling Jesus sexy
Maybe the son of God was a sexy guy who knows

Correction to my previous comment: Passage cited is Psalm 37:13, not 317:13. It's a long book...but not that long!
Posted by: Keith | August 27, 2008 at 06:49 AM
I don't know what I'll do first throw up or cry. This is complete trash. Lord have mercy.

As awful as this is, I find myself wondering, is this something that happened because the churches are weak . . . or is this a sign that the churches are actually doing something right? Let me explain: Bitter, hateful humor like this often arises from fear. What we don't understand has a way of terrifying us, and sometimes we try to make light of that which we fear - if we can minimize and ridicule whatever it is, it becomes a little less frightening. It's been pointed out many times that no one ever ridicules Mohammed in public the way Jesus is openly mocked. The thing is, people aren't cracking many jokes about Mohammed in private, either. And a violent reprisal by Buddhists in the United States is unlikely, so why don't we see the Buddha ridiculed more often? Maybe it's because Mohammed and the Buddha can be easily dismissed in a way that Jesus can't. The non-religious aren't secretly terrified that Islam or Buddhism might be the one true path . . . but the possibility that Christianity just might be the only way is something they can't ignore, no matter how they try. Unfortunately, instead of honestly searching their own souls, and investigating the claims of the Christian faith - which might require them in the end to admit they were wrong and to have to make big changes in the way they live - they reject Christianity all the more violently to try to silence that nagging voice of faith/doubt/conscience. Even in today's society, it's impossible to ignore the person of Jesus or the claims of his followers . . . and by recreating Jesus in mundane, or even ridiculous, terms, nonbelievers can begin to neutralize the fear.

Whoever made this film reveals they have no reverence or fear of God. I sincerely pray that those involved in this blasphemy repent and get saved.

Amy,
"But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
All who see me mock me..."
"[H]e had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
He was despised and rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not."

I watched the video and was appalled. But the worst part is that the song has stayed in my head like an annoying commercial jingle. This is not just "light-hearted" entertainment. It is invasive and insidious.

HhmmMmmm ... I Think everyone here seems To Be forgetting That This song And The character of jesus in this movie Are SUPPOSED To Be Blasphemous. That's what The movie's About. a production so Blasphemous it Attracts unwanted Attention. The Point of The Play is That it's Outrageous. And South Park makes some very good satire of our society And The way we Live As ... um..... humans. I Guess. It's one of The four Shows I would keep on Television. (Actually, Given The choice, I would Destroy Television. But Seriously, This isn't just making fun of The most Almighty and High son of The LORD your GOD who has power over etcetera for the sake of A few Laughs from seeing jesus Do Ordinary stuff. The South Park Guys Are above That.
I will NOT Be seeing This movie, And That Team America Thing was A Load of useless over The Top Trash, Not That I saw it.
I Don't know. just Try to focus on something more useful. Like The Amount of money we waste That could educate African And Pakistani kids.

Ok, I'm a Christian and I just watched this movie this weekend, and I found it hilarious! That song Rock Me Sexy Jesus is NOT blasphemous. I personally believe that God and Jesus have a sense of humor, and that you guys are taking this way too personally and seriously. And, furthermore, you have to listen to the entire song before passing judgment, and must also remember that the play conceived in this movie was meant for modern day audiences (i.e., if Jesus was physically present today, he would be a celebrity and prob be considered sexy by many, sorry but it's true). In addition, I have read comments on youtube where the song is posted, and alot of the comments said that if churches sang more songs like this, they would actually attend! The fact is, times have changed, and churches must change with the times if they are to gain younger members. I'm willing to guess that most of you haven't watched the film in it's entirety or listened to the full song. You hear the title Rock Me Sexy Jesus, and you are automatically offended. Try to open your minds and hearts, watch the movie (without the corncob up you know where), relax, and enjoy this very funny film, and see it as the satire it is. Aside from a couple of "racy" lyrics, the song has a lot of positive lyrics..Here's the lyrics to the song. I have added in parenthesis the positives, which far outweigh the so-called negatives. Watch the movie though to understand why the lyrics are the way they are and you will also realize this aspect of the film plays a very minor role:
