Adam and Eve Coffee Mug
This mug should make the "Christian" nudists proud. It features Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with their private features covered with fig leaves for modesty. However, pour a hot beverage into the mug and the leaves magically disappear.

Another bit of so-called Jesus Junk that was never meant for Christian consumption. I am flabbergasted - at the Curator's standards.

By the leaves disappearing when cup is hot, shows that this product was not made by christians for a christian consumer. So why is it on this site? I agree Barb, God says that the standard that Chris judges will be the standard he is judged. God help him.....

I wonder if the first prototype required you to fill the mug with a hot liquid... and then turn it upside down?

I would like to know where you first saw this mug, Chris? On a pastor's desk? The Kerusso website? The bookstore in the Crystal Cathedral? Or wait . . . it wouldn't happen to be a secular novelty store website, would it? The kind of site that sells slippers that make flatulent noises as you walk along, edible phosphorescent body paints, and playing cards with pictures of naked ladies on them? Yeah, Christians hang out there all the time, searching for edifying coffee mugs and trying to witness to other online shoppers.

Chadm and Barb,
I think that considering your tone and constant complaint of this blog, that you should take Titus 3:10 to heart and follow the Lord's directive specifically.

At first I saw the mug and was embarrassed that the thought even occurred to me, "Wouldn't that be awful, even unthinkable if hot liquid made the leaves evaporate..." then I kept reading and sure enough...
Whether this item is intended for Christians or not, it is a product featuring Adam and Eve, two people who are part of a Divine Christian story. It treats them in a flippant and dismissive way. These folks are not comic book characters to be toyed with, but are part of a foundational story in the Christian faith that we hold to be true. I am puzzled by your critic Barb dismissing this fact by sarcastically stating the object does not deserve criticism because of where you may have discovered it... "it wouldn't happen to be a secular novelty store website, would it? The kind of site that sells slippers that make flatulent noises as you walk along, edible phosphorescent body paints, and playing cards with pictures of naked ladies on them"...(You've shopped in a place with such a venue Barb? Now I'm flabbergasted.)
Chris, if those slippers, body paints or naked ladies cards' had identifiable biblical characters on them,(as does this mug) would your critics give you permission to criticize them then? Why does it matter WHERE they are sold? The POINT is that they are being produced, and that they are offensive to the Christian faith. They are a sad commentary on the culture, and yes, even too often, the church. Folks profiting from such products that are shocking and sacrilegious are noted here at the "The Museum of Idolatry". One would assume that the readers would know that your intent is to highlight when something sacred is being dealt with in a profane manner.
An item or idea does not necessarily have to be sold in a Christian book store to be worth criticizing, though I know we are commissioned by God's own word to always teach, correct and admonish those in the Christian faith, first.
Therefore it is appropriate to post the object, and to criticize the object, to use the object to make a point.
There was a time when making such a mug would have been unthinkable inside or even outside Christian marketing circles.
Also Chris, your critics' sarcasm doesn't help make any point whatsoever. In fact you draw from Holy Scripture in formulating evaluations and judgments of objects and events. In this way you seek to inform the people of God.

I hate to sound naive, but when I read this, I thought Chris was kidding about the leaves disappearing. Is that part for real?

Macquarie university's (Sydney-NSW-Australia) bookshop sells those mugs. I walked pass the front display this morning. So sad...

Oh dear. It seems I've made the mistake of touching God's dearly anointed Chris again.
I thought the point of THIS SITE was to point out errors IN THE CHURCH. Not anything that's done by non-Christians, no matter how filthy or blasphemous. I don't care for this mug at all, but compared to some of the things non-Christians do that are offensive to true believers, it's small potatoes. If non-Christian offenses are to be included here, let's showcase something really worth getting upset about.
And no, I've never shopped in a novelty store like the one I described, but I know what's out there in the world. Really, is there something admirable about ignorance? I've received unwanted print catalogs in the mail, with something cute and sweet on the front, and then discovered the company's less appealing offerings when I opened the catalog to browse. (Whereupon I promptly threw it into the trash.) And I've seen novelty store websites when I was following a link on some website somewhere . . . gosh, could it be THIS one?
