Jesus Ain't Your Wingman!
Here is yet another example of how 'me centered', backwards and upside down "American Christianity" has become. The shirt reads "Jesus is my Wingman". The word wingman comes to us from the world of military aviation. The 'wingman' is NOT the leader of a squadron or formation. Instead, a wingman is the pilot who positions his aircraft outside and behind (on the wing of) the leader of a flying formation.
Jesus ain't your's or anyone else's 'wingman'! He is the King of Kings and the One True God in human flesh. He ain't your wingman, life coach, therapist, or 'spirit guide'! You don't call the shots, He does. American's need to be reminded of the real chain of command in the Kingdom of God.
Philippians 2:9 Therefore God has highly exalted [Jesus] and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

These days, most folks don't associate the word "wingman" with military aviation. These days when you hear the word "wingman," it usually refers to a guy's buddy who goes to the bar or other favorite hangout with him to help him, er, "get some." The guy who wants to "score" identifies the woman he hopes to go home with that night, and the wingman helps it happen, perhaps by distracting the woman's friends so his buddy has a chance to talk to her.
I wouldn't quibble too much over this shirt if the message really was "Jesus is a fellow-warrior who has my back" . . . but it's much more likely to be interpreted as "Jesus is the drinking buddy who helps me get laid."
Then again, that's just the kind of Jesus a lot of folks these days are looking for, so why not?

No Jesus is NOT a fellow warrior who has my back. Jesus Fights/Fought the battle. Jesus WON the battle at Calvarys cross. He isn't some buddy.
The message on the shirt is totally unscriptual.

I'm not saying I agree with the theoretical "fellow-warrior" message per se, particularly as far as tone and connotations are concerned; I'm sorry if that's the way it came across. I was comparing the way this shirt would be understood in the light of military aviation (which makes self the focus and is mildly irreverent but nevertheless portrays Jesus as a source of strength in one's life and a crusader against the Enemy) and the much more likely worldly interpretation (which makes Jesus out to be a partner in drunkenness and fornication).

Do these shirts come in red...oh yeah, and instead say that you are a filthy sinner in need of a Savior (Jesus), so repent and place your faith in Christ?
