» 12 Days of Jesus Junk - Day 5 - Jesus Pencil Toppers from Heal Your Church WebSite
On the 5th day of kitschmas my webmaster was struck down by G*d. Why? How about the idolatry (or blasphemy) known as Jesus Pencil Toppers and the faux navigation they objectify.

The discerning Christian will say: "This is out and out blasphemy. You've made the Holy Son of God into an image and into a toy."
The lukewarm, social-club Christian will say: "Dude, think of all the witnessing opportunities this will provide to invite people to my church for the next sermon series on Sex, Resolving Workplace Conflict, or how to find God in this summer's movies. If you dislike Jesus being depicted as a plastic toy, then you must be a legalistic Pharisee."

You know, you'd think SOMEBODY would notice that there are very few physical descriptions in the Bible...particularly not of Jesus. So one has to suspect that God doesn't WANT us making images--you know, outside of that DIRECT COMMANDMENT against it.

I agree Mrs. Pilgrim!! Do you know that orthodox Jews consider God so Holy they won't even spell out the word. If you notice they write it G_d out of respect. What has happened to Christians????

Archie McPhee, the Seattle based company who made this item, is a Christian hating company, so no surprise these pencil toppers were made.
But with the red robe, this Jesus looks like the painting of Jesus the MORMON church uses. Let's not forget that the Mormon jesus is NOT the Biblical Jesus!!!

Well, for the carnal sheep who may think this is an effective witnessing tool, they could say the Son of God can erase your mistakes with one swoop of this miracle eraser....
While this may only seem like a cute little eraser, it's really a graven image, making a false image of a false Jesus.
It's not an eraser on your pencil that should give a witness to your faith, it's your countenance and the way you treat others.

Worse yet, Carol: They aren't even erasers. They're just cutesy, useless adornments that get in the way of using your eraser.
...Sounds like the current culture's notion of Jesus, actually.
