Buddy Jesus
Is Jesus your buddy, your life coach, your financial guru, your fitness trainers, your career counselor, your sex therapist or your wellness instructor?
Or is Jesus your Lord? Is Jesus your great God and Savior?
This statue was featured in the movie Dogma. It goes by the name Buddy Christ and has spawned an entire cultural phenomena. Flickr.com has hundreds of photographs of people with Buddy Jesus, or dressed as Buddy Christ or showing off their Buddy Jesus dashboard doll or bobble-head figure. There is even a Church of Buddy Christ.
The really tragic part of this is that far too many preachers are so hell-bent on preaching 'life application' and/or self-help sermons that their the ones who've trivialized Jesus and his message. Buddy Jesus and all his merchandise reflects an image of Jesus that was created in the pulpits of America long before this idol was ever forged.
Without a doubt, the most disrespectful, disgusting thing I've ever seen. Degrading the Lord Jesus Christ like this is Positively monstrous!!!
Though, to me, it is proof that Christ is Lord and God. Nobody makes little Allah figurines, ridiculing him. Nobody makes mockeries of Hinduism's gods. Always Jesus is the one who is the butt of jokes. Why? Because the spirit of Anti-Christ so prevalent in the world knows he is Lord and God, they just don't want to submit to Him. They will though, one day, EVERY KNEE WILL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!

"Buddy Christ says Yo!" (Barf!!) Hear is a perfect example of the results of not shephearding the flock in the Word of God. This is the result of creating false idols and teaching a false doctrine that Jesus is an "easy fix" and just wants you to do well and be blessed materially, emotionally, and financially. He's almost like Santa.........OOPS!!! can we see Him in a red velvet suit later this Fall??? May God have mercy on all of us. I pray for His quick return daily as I am getting so tired of the decline in morality and mentality in the world today. It is very sad and depressing to see what is happening in in the name of the Lord. Dumbing down of already dumb sheep and goats.

I cringe whenever I see our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ portrayed in any way. We do not know what He looked like, so any depiction of Him is a man-made creation of someone's imagination.
But this....this is an abomination from the pit of hell. It pains my spirit to even look at the picture.

This absolute denegration and mockery of The LORD JESUS CHRIST shows us that we are not only in the last of the last days, but that the culmination of all of this neo-evangelical, seeker friendly, ape the world church of Laodecia has finally borne its true fruit.....the subordination of Jesus to no more that just another crutch to excuse the sinfulness of man without repentance. After all, your " buddy " wouldn't throw you into Hell, would HE? Woe unto these watered-down churches and their hirelings behind the pulpit for allowing this disgraceful "sign of the times" to be the world's perception of who JESUS really is.

Funny thing is most late first century and early second century images of Jesus depict him as having medium length (over the ears) hair and a clean shaven face.

"Buddy Christ" is not the Christ I know, but "another Jesus" whom the Apostles of old did not preach (II Corinthians 11:4). May this "Christ" go quickly to the Graveyard of Relevance and may he never be ressurrected!

Next up on the Christian Suckers Shopping Network: The "Homeboy Jesus" figurine and T-shirt package. Yeah, you dawgs can have yo' own preferred version of Jesus. He got da bling-bling goin' on wit' His big ol' rocks and saggin' pants. He so fly He make yo' pimp look like Ben Stein! An' down at da bottom of da figgerine, it say "Jesus is my homeboy." Remember, Jesus is down wit' dat!

After getting over my nausa & disgust I get an errier feeling looking at this. The other figures were bad but there is something really scary about this one. I went & read what the "church" believes - right out of satan's play book. I really like what Gary said!!

Just wanted to mention: "Buddy Christ" is a from a film called Dogma (Kevin Smith). The point that Smith was making when he introduced "Buddy Christ" is "Don't try and change religion to be 'relevant' with today's times - you'll look ridiculous". Research, please, Buddy Christ was making the point that you yourselves are making now!

Exactly... it's satire, humour, poking fun at the "Church," which has gotten so corrupt, and so sanctimonious that no one CAN take a joke. There are false idols all over the place... tabloids, playing cards, action figures... anything that we put before God in our lives IS a false idol. Our relationship with God through Jesus Christ is supposed to be a loving one, a close one, one where we know God has our backs and that he blesses us with his infinite mercy.

Linda, really? "An abomination from the pits of hell..." That's comical.
Pastor Frank, boy am I glad you're not my pastor. People make funny figurines of Christ because people, just like you, react to it in an incredibly humorous way. It's not that big of a deal. Did that figurine truly make you want to give up your faith? I can almost assure you that it will not change the faith of ANYONE ELSE, either.
I would say that you're all overreacting. If you have an unwaivering faith in Christ, trust me, he knows already. And no statue, figurine, etc., etc., can ever take that away from you.

I think you have to understand where the Buddy Jesus comes from to appreciate his purpose. In the Kevin Smith film Dogma, Buddy Christ is created by the Roman Catholic church to win back parishioners. Therefore the parody is not intended to be of CHRIST, but of preachers are so hell-bent on preaching 'life application' and/or self-help sermons. It's a parody of the church, and the ones who trivialize Jesus and his message deserve to be parodied.

Dear Agnostic Al,
As an agnostic, it would be difficult or perhaps impossible to understand what sacred means. To an agnostic, all things are open to criticism or worse blasphemy without any consequences. After all you sit outside looking in.
But Al, after you have sat at the feet of the risen Lord Jesus Christ, and like John you have fallen before him as dead. It's a bit ghastly to see the creator mocked by His creatures.
I suggest you read Josh Mcdowell's booklet "More than a Carpenter", you just might change your mind.
