Coming Soon: An online Bible that is all about YOU! LifeChurch.tv is developing what they call the "You Version".
ChurchRelevance.com says that:
YouVersion allows users to share what Scripture means to them by associating a Bible verse or series of verses with:• video
• audio
• images
• text commentary
• tags
• and web linksUltimately, it allows you to discover the relevancy of the Bible through the experiences, ideas, and contributions of others.
We're all for reading scripture. But, what matters is what the Bible means NOT what it means to you.
So we've decided to contribute to the You Version. (sheesh that name is awful). This is what our comments and links will be for 2 Timothy 3:1-2 which says:
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 cheartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, flovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people."
Comment: Sadly the name of this online version plays into the concept of loving our selves that verse 2 warns us about. We are calling on LifeChurch.tv to change the name of this Bible.
Furthermore, we ask that you prayerfully consider another passage of scripture. Hebrews 4:12 says:
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Notice that it is God's word that is to judge OUR hearts not the other way around. If you are here to share what the Bible 'Means to You' then you are here for the wrong reason. You should instead, be here to discover what the Bible means and allow it to judge the sin, error and bad intentions of your heart. For further information on this matter we recommend this God Tube video entitled, "What Does the Bible Mean To You?"
