“Bible Fight” The Video Game
We didn't hear about this game from atheists or non-Christians. We heard about this game from Christian gamers and youth ministers who thought it was an "awesome video game" and the “most fun video game they’ve played in a long time".
There was no outrage over the game, no pangs of guilt for having fun while beating the snot out of Jesus, God or Moses. There was no shame expressed over enjoying a game that blasphemes our Lord. Instead, there was gleeful excitement about the game and an enthusiasm for blogging about it and sharing it with the friends in their online communities.
Below are screen shots from the online video game entitled “Bible Fight”. In the game you can pick different Bible ‘characters’ to fight each other in hand to hand combat. The Characters include Moses, Noah, Eve, Mary, Satan and Jesus (who fights wearing only a loin clothe and a crown of thorns).
Each character has 'special' moves and powers. For instance Noah can call forth a stampede of ark animals, Eve (who is wearing only fig leaves) can whap her adversaries with a snake, Moses can rain down a plague of frogs while Jesus can clobber his opponents with a cross. As an added bonus, if you win enough tournaments you can unlock an additional character, God Himself.
This is the type of mockery that we'd expect from the world and unbelievers. But what does it say about the state of the church when Christians, rather than being outraged are proud to express their approval of a game like this?
Opening Screen - The Brass Knuckles and Crucifix are a Nice Touch
Pick A Bible Character to Fight With and Let the Combat Begin!
Here is Jesus Fighting Eve - Learn the special "WWJD moves" to Kick Eve's 'Naked Rear End'
Here is Satan Defeating Jesus at Golgotha
---
How odd is it that some see this as nothing more than good clean Biblical fun?

What is the world coming to when we have ATHEISTS accusing "Christians" of blasphemy?! Check out this blog I found by atheist speaking on this "video game": (Beware: She curses a few times)

I'm shocked!!! Just another reason why I am SOOOOOO glad we never allowed an X-box or any other gaming system into the home!! Yes, we're Christians, but I have to admit single mom , you are walking in MORE DISCERNMENT than those "christians" who thought the game was a "good idea"......
Jesus fighting Moses, Mary against Eve? This is total hogwash blasphemy. It is a sign though...the true Christ is coming for His true followers.....

In this day and age when you have a video game of the Tribulation is anyone really surprised that "christians" would would be ammused at this blasphemous garbage. God will judge those who think this is "neat" "Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings... 2 Pe 2:10 (NIV)

This makes me want to cry and throw up. May we be moved to more than just commenting on this website, but moved to prayer - that Jesus' true sheep would hear His voice and set themselves apart from this world. As we see the filth creeping into the "church" may we mourn more over the filth in our own hearts that hinders us from being empty vessels. The goats will be more recognizeable as goats the more we as His sheep reflect the awesome glory of Jesus Christ in our lives.

This makes me want to cry. I cannot believe this is marketed as a "Christian" video game. Even the graphics look Satanic.
Lord have mercy on those who created this game, who play this game, and who believe this game to be harmless fun.
Posted by: Linda | May 25, 2007 at 09:58 PM
Not trying to apologize for this thing (it is blasphemy, period), but let's correct one misconception -- this is in no way being marketed as a Christian video game.
It's a Flash game on the Adult Swim website. Adult Swim is Cartoon Network's 18-and-over programming block. It doesn't take much effort to see where their values lie. If you think this is blasphemous...well, you've obviously never watched their show "Moral Orel" to see just how far they will go in blasphemy and debasing Christian faith. I dare you to sit through one 15-minute episode without vomiting.
It is truly astounding that even these professing Christians find nothing wrong with this. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned hypocrisy that at least pretended to respect God? The apostate modern church has completely drained its supply of shame.

I have seen many things in this world that are very wrong, but this takes it to an entirely new level. Anybody who calls themselves a Christian should be apalled at this. I can not believe this

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things." Romans 1:21-23
Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus!

Let's address a few things:
"I'm shocked!!! Just another reason why I am SOOOOOO glad we never allowed an X-box or any other gaming system into the home"
You obviously have no concept of video games or the positive things they teach children. If you're going to ban a gaming console from your children, at least play the console and at least one game from every genre before you slander it. It's nothing more than a piece of technology and you can use it to teach children too.
"This is Apostasy, Apostasy in the most vile form. Come Lord Jesus!"
Apostasy is the formal renunciation of one's faith. For this to be Apostasy you are making the assumption that the people who made this game are indeed Christian.
"This makes me want to cry. I cannot believe this is marketed as a "Christian" video game. Even the graphics look Satanic."
Actually the font belongs to the Black Letter font family used in German print. The graphics are merely vector based imagery which is used in -every- flash based game. The characters and graphics don't look any different than Dora Dora explorer games.
"I have seen many things in this world that are very wrong, but this takes it to an entirely new level."
I would think with the general mind in this community that you would find it more appropraite to bash things like abortion than to care about a rather silly flash based video game.
Fact is, it's a game. A game that will be deleted once another game sprouts up. If you want the game to go away faster, stop talking about it. All of this banter about the game merely generates more revenue for Adult Swim. You're just adding fuel to the fire that you're trying to put out.
Regards,
Fred.

No, it is not a harmless game. It's a symptom of the days we are living in. Christians should be well away from this absurdity and at the same time it's ok to talk about it as much as we can, to warn other Christians so that we will pray more. Things are really looking very dark in this world and we should start looking up for Him that is certainly coming soon.
Posted by: Lygia | June 16, 2007 at 04:59 PM
"a rather silly flash based video game."
We all appreciate definitions. However, the above statement is a classic example of the very essence of what I believe the respondants are reacting to concerning this "game" - a nondiscerning spirit among so called Christians!
There will always be garbage all around us... that shouldn't shock any of us. But, to fund and welcome the garbage into our homes (the game; not the xbox) shows a severe lack of discernment.
It is nothing new for the world to trivialize Jesus down to a child's story or a mere action-filled video game. But, it is very disheartening to see parents and children who claim to know Him lacking discernment. Even if I didnt Know him, I would at least ask myself if this was appropriate.
If someone close to you (your mother, father, a real friend, a garndparent..etc.) died a horrific car crash death. I'm sure you wouldn't find yourself playing a video game of "Dad battles the drunk drivers! You either know Him and his sufferings or you don't.
Posted by: Dan P | June 19, 2007 at 10:30 AM
Quite simply, that has to be one of the most blaspemous and irreverent things I have EVER seen.
Posted by: Carolyn | June 20, 2007 at 11:20 AM
I find it interesting if someone unlocks the "God" character, it may be confronted on Judgement Day. ("So, why was beating up Jesus enjoyable?") That game, even if it's supposed to have a Christian look to it, is NOT Christian.
Posted by: Kristina | June 23, 2007 at 11:04 PM
Let's address a few things, Fred:
"You obviously have no concept of video games or the positive things they teach children."
Um, most of the video games either teach a wrong morality or a twisted version of a correct one. Some outright preach a false gospel or advocate for false religions. Of course, if you consider these things positive, we have nothing left to discuss.
"If you're going to ban a gaming console from your children, at least play the console and at least one game from every genre before you slander it."
And if I want to ban drugs from my children, should I sample one from every category before I "slander it"? Slander, incidentally, means an untrue statement...
"It's nothing more than a piece of technology and you can use it to teach children too."
So can you use Playboy videos to do sex ed, but I don't know that you want to go there...
"Apostasy is the formal renunciation of one's faith. For this to be Apostasy you are making the assumption that the people who made this game are indeed Christian."
This is true. We need to call it blasphemy.
Better?
"Actually the font belongs to the Black Letter font family used in German print. The graphics are merely vector based imagery which is used in -every- flash based game. The characters and graphics don't look any different than Dora Dora explorer games."
Um, I wasn't aware that Dora the Explorer was particularly dark or threatening.
"I would think with the general mind in this community that you would find it more appropraite to bash things like abortion than to care about a rather silly flash based video game."
1. Silly? Silly? You think making fun of God is only frivolous?
2. Bash?
3. Um, this site is not about abortion, my dear; this site is about "What Happens When the Church Fails to Remain Faithful to the Correct Preaching and Teaching of God's Word". Read the banner. There are only so many times you can write about the evils of abortion before you've covered all the ground.
"Fact is, it's a game."
Yeah, isn't it sick that people would use blasphemy as full-participation entertainment?
"A game that will be deleted once another game sprouts up."
Are you sure?
"If you want the game to go away faster, stop talking about it."
Similarly, if we stop talking about abortion, will it go away, too?
"All of this banter about the game merely generates more revenue for Adult Swim. You're just adding fuel to the fire that you're trying to put out."
Banter? Banter is frivolous talk; we're being serious. But nonetheless, Mr. Correct Definitions, don't you imagine that mentioning this issue helps us get a good reading on the condition of the Church, if Christians are playing it?
Your humble servant,
Mrs. Wayfarer Pilgrim

Personally I believe many of you are blowing the whole thing out of porportion, its just a game people it is not like adult swim or any creator of this game is asking you to turn away from Christ or God or to worship Satan. It is a simple not so entertaining yet interesting flash prodject that is in no way "evil" in my oppinion. Yes I do believe it may cross the line in some ways but look at it this way at least the creators did not allow for blood or "mortal kombat" like endings to the battles. I am a devoted young Christian and was born into a strong Christian family. I have seen many horrible things on the internet and TV that made me turn my head and change the channel, and this did neither. I played it for about 5 minutes, quickly became bored and ended it. Yes I do believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will once again walk the Earth again soon, and the twisted, horrible, world that we live in will end soon as well, but this is not worth our time as Christians and not worth anyone's time to fuss over it and complain. I am not promoting or encouraging anyone to take part in this game or am I saying that it is right, just stating a fact that there are worse things than this on TV and the internet and it is no reason to say that X-Box or Playstation is just as evil or to waste time on the subject.
Instead I will say this, may God bless all those who believe in Him and praise his Holy name.
May God Forgive those who do not know the way and are blind to the ways of the Lord.
And simply to Pray for those who are blind and forgive them for the sins they commit.
May The Lord Jesus Christ Bless You All.

This is rediculous!
You die hard Christians proclaim BLASPHEMY and qoute scripture everytime a controversial subject pops up.
Even THIS line:
"May The Lord Jesus Christ Bless You All."
If he loves me so much, why should a fusion of cartoons and miniscule violence insult "him"?
If hes in my heart and mind, why doesnt he control my willpower to avoid playing this game?
What if he honestly doesn't care WHAT games are played?
Video games are works of fiction. Just like God and his son.

I think Bible fight is amazing, you don't think Jesus would get a kick out of it? Come on, its fun! It's a silly game and IT IS hillarious. I think it's funny that alot of you probably have kids that play grand theft auto, but if you ever caught them playing bible fight, you'd bathe them in holy water and burn your PC.

OK. Some common sense needs to be inserted here, in the midst of all this "Fervency.(tm)"
If you're going to criticize a game developer for pushing a blasphemous game: first off, there are far better (or worse, depending on your point of view,) to choose from. I'll not bother naming names. I'd hate to start a side-rant.
I don't see here a game designed to send our children to Hell. I see a tool. Is there anything wrong with reintroducing this generation to the heroes of Scripture? Granted, that's not how it was developed or presented, but there's no reason it can't be used. Learn to think outside the box. That's why we're failing in this world.
We've lost the ability to talk to our children. They won't listen to their parents. They don't listen to their youth pastors [owing to the stream of irrelevant church talk that fills our consumer-driven churches of today.] They're listening to the music, to the games, and to their peers. So are we using those avenues to reach them? Heavens, NO. We ban Xboxes from the house, rather than use them to teach friendship, team work, and social ethics. We toss out the books our children read, rather than reading with them. We as a church shut out and condemn the very bands and music most likely to reach this dying generation. Why? Because it doesn't suit your tastes. News flash: it's not YOUR music. It's theirs. Just like our modern praise and worship isn't our grandparents' music.
Learn to think outside the box. The old ways have lost their usefulness. There are new, better methods of reaching out to people. Times change. We're not wandering around on horseback with swords either, and you don't hear folks complaining about it.
This is the same basic issue I have with the "KJV only" folks I occasionally run into. Your children don't relate to the King's English. They relate to Modern American English. Give them a bible that reads like Harry Potter, and they'll read it. They pored over some 7000 pages of Rowling's works. Don't tell me they don't have the attention span for it. You just haven't found the right attention grabber yet.
If you're afraid to deal with this modern generation, if you're unsure how to talk to them or relate to them, don't condemn their actions out of hand. Get out of the way, let someone else do the job. Pray for them, help them any way you can, but don't stand in the way of what G-d's doing.
It's all about love. It's what this world is desperately crying out for. It's what WE've all begged for, at one point in time. What I've read in this comment section isn't love. It's condemnation, and hate, and outrage over [frankly] small potatoes.
You want something to be outraged about? The country of Swaziland will be essentially extinct in 20 years, due to AIDS, poverty, and poor growth conditions. 40-some odd percent of all households are run by minors, because the adult population has been ravaged by HIV. This nation is one generation away from extinction. 1 in 10 youth there will reach the age of 30. 14 year old girls are selling their bodies to passing truckers for a sack of potates to feed their 5 brothers and sisters. Outraged yet? Now go do something about it.
The point is this: there are much bigger fish to fry. Re-read the story of Jesus' life. His biggest problem with His world? It wasn't the actions of the prostitutes and lepers. It was the INACTION of the pharisees to do anything about the social injustices around them. Their false piety and holier than thou attitude didn't [and doesn't] fit with His message. Jesus came to heal the sick, to bring hope for the hopeless. He came for the orphan. The widow. The displaced migrant. Those very people the pharisees looked down upon for a lack of "a proper tithe" and because they dirtied up the courtyard of their precious synagogue.
This is why we're here. Not so we can grace a pew and slide into Heaven. So we can reach out and love someone. And not just love them long enough to spread the Gospel and move on. REALLY LOVE SOMEONE. Because love with an agenda isn't love at all.

Just as a forward, I am a big fan of Adult Swim and think that the programming is mostly hilarious. Some if it is incredibly juvenile but by and large it’s nice to have a block of programming dedicated to adult cartoons. While on their website I tried out the Bible Fight game. For a flash game it’s incredibly entertaining and well animated. Wanting to learn how to do more of the special moves, I Googled the game and found this website. I must say, it’s a bit depressing to see so many “dedicated Christians” making such a fuss over a silly little internet game. It seems that most Christians in America fail to see outside our borders, as if everything outside the U.S. isn’t any of their concern. Where is the outrage over living in a world that has never been more wealthy or technologically advanced, and we have hundreds of thousands of people dying each year from hunger and a lack of basic medical care? Where is the outrage over the incompetence, hypocrisy and outright lies from the very head of our “representative” government on down? What happened to that wonderful commandment to love your neighbor as yourself? To actually care what happens to the people around you and to the world around you. And here we sit wasting our time and energy fretting about a video game.
Posted by: joel | November 29, 2007 at 03:59 AM
Oh my! The creator of this stupid game should be having trouble sleeping and an annoying sense of "something just aint right, but I don't know and I can't put my finger on it just yet?" Goodness! Some people REALLY lack discernement.
Posted by: Teresa | December 11, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Many of the people who say that we shouldn't be up in arms over a flash game seem to not grasp the concept of this website. 'A Little Leaven' is meant for the discussion of Christian consumerism, corruption, and strange and silly things that have found their way to the market. There isn't any discussion about abortion, world hunger, climate change, stem cell research, etc. etc. etc. because that's not the point of the website.

I bet Jesus would play it.
Posted by: Justin | March 19, 2008 at 02:58 AM
It's okay everyone, seriously.
Eve is a non-literal fairytale
Moses never existed, historically speaking
Jesus might not have existed, but probably did. Even if he did there is no proof he was the "son of God"
Satan is a laughable concept (kind of like the boogeyman) created to 1) frighten people into believing and 2) give an explanation for the bad things happening to good people paradox
Noah never existed
Virgin Mary might have existed, but was definitely no virgin
And God most likely doesn't exist, especially since the god of the gaps is becoming smaller and smaller due to scientific discovery
So no worries; this game is only blasphemous to non-existent beings.

Believing that Jesus is God is idolatry.
Posted by: Matthew Dickinson | March 25, 2008 at 01:10 PM
Family Man: How do you know all these things? Or are you just going off of (1) what someone else told you, and (2) what you WANT to believe?
Matthew: And I say that NOT believing that Jesus is God is blasphemy. So that leaves us where?
Posted by: Mrs. Pilgrim | March 25, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Why is everyone complaining? It's just a flash game created for fun. Have you ever noticed that people make fun of Jesus all the time? Why don't you complain about that instead of a computer game that does not affect you at all? You can just ignore it completely, it's not even anywhere near real. I'm a christian, and I think it's hilarious.
To Justin: Jesus would think it's awesome.

That being said, a lot of the people on this website are the people I took so long. The Christian Faith needs to (pardon the expression) get their heads of their butts, and focus on real issues
Paul, your my kind of guy, I don't know wether Christian, but you're opinion is regardless right on track.
I do have a problem with Mrs. Wayfarer Pilgrim however. Maam our objective as christians is to show the love of God through example. Next time, instead of a passionate, hot-blooded rant. Try seeing it their way, wlak a mile in the other persons shoes as the old maxim goes. I'm not saying tell them their right, but try to see the other side of the argument.

Well I guess I should start by saying I'm not a religious person. Eve is sexy :D. Lol but seriously, I liked this game. As far as flash games go, it was fun, but I couldn't get past Satan. Lol I'd love to see a next gen style game of this for consoles or PC. Oh yeah and by the way, all you haters should consider this: there are TONS of things out there today that make fun of religion way worse than a freakin' flash game like this. Just look at TV shows like Family Guy. Or even worse, South Park. Have you seen what there idea of God is? LMAO. Anyway, my point is compared to that stuff, this game is really nothing to be worrying about.
